PENGELOLAAN BAHAN PUSTAKA DAN PELESTARIAN KOLEKSI LANGKA DI PERPUSTAKAAN PUSAT SURVEI GEOLOGI
Abstract
The geological survey central library is the main center for storing special and historical rare collections in the field of geology. This information center was brought by Dutch geologists with various important documents and publications about the geology of the Indonesian region as well as documentation of the development of earth sciences. There are challenges in managing geological libraries which continue to develop along with advances in technology. And this research aims to understand the management of library materials, including classification, and examine efforts to preserve rare collections. This research uses direct research methods and interviews with geology library staff or managers. The subjects of this research were 2 geology library managers. The results of this research show that the geology library has implemented a library material management system by utilizing the latest information technology. However, from the research results there were several findings, including that the geology library experienced delays in transferring classification from manual to a system with UDC (universal decimal classification) guidelines due to a lack of human resources and functional librarians, this affected the development of library automation. as well as efforts to preserve rare collections which still face various challenges such as less than optimal storage, lack of expert staff, this is the driving reason for geological library management to propose collaboration with the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia (Perpusnas RI) to transfer rare collections to media with the aim of preserving and maintain these rare collections.
