Abstract

Indonesian society consists of various ethnic groups where each tribe has a different culture, as well as the Lembak community. The Lembak community embraces Islam so that its culture has many Islamic nuances. The customs in the series of ceremonies they performed began to shift along with changes through both internal and external influences. So it is necessary to know the traditional procession, the meaning of symbols and the relevance of symbols in the wedding customs of the lembak tribe to Islamic values. This research is a field research with a qualitative descriptive approach and uses purposive sampling technique. The Lembak Tribe Wedding Ceremony has several activities such as Menindai (observing and evaluating the suitability of the male party), Betanye (ensuring that the female party is not yet bound to another man), Engagement, Marriage, Malam Napa (the night of pairing). In the Lembak tribe, it is called Kerje or Bepelan, which is the core or culmination of the marriage ceremony. The activity is a series of celebrations as a statement of joy and gratitude of all families both in close family relationships and distant families.
