PERAN ULAMA DALAM PENGEMBANGAN DAN PENYEBARAN LITERATUR HADIS
Abstract
This article examines the significant role of Islamic scholars (ulama) in the development and dissemination of hadith literature from the time of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to the contemporary era. As the second primary source of Islamic law after the Qur'an, hadith has undergone a complex process of collection, codification, and transmission over the centuries. This study employs a historical-analytical approach to identify the major contributions of scholars in developing methodologies for hadith collection, classification systems, hadith criticism, and innovations in the dissemination of hadith literature. The findings reveal that ulama have played a multidimensional role as transmitters, authors, critics, educators, and innovators within the hadith tradition. Their contributions have not only preserved the authenticity of hadith but also fostered the growth of a sophisticated and comprehensive discipline of hadith sciences. In the modern era, scholars continue to adapt to new technologies and contemporary challenges to ensure the relevance and accessibility of hadith literature. This paper concludes that the sustained role of ulama in the development of hadith literature has enabled this tradition to remain vibrant and evolving for over fourteen centuries, despite various historical and contemporary challenges.
