About the Journal
Ars Sacra: Journal of Art and Religion is a peer-reviewed international journal devoted to the scholarly exploration of the relationship between music, sound, and religious or spiritual life. Positioned at the intersection of religious studies, ethnomusicology, musicology, theology, anthropology, and cultural studies, the journal offers a platform for diverse voices, traditions, and interdisciplinary methodologies. It is published by the Religious Studies Program, Faculty of Ushuluddin, UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, Indonesia.
The journal promotes global, interreligious, and intercultural dialogue on the role of music and sound in shaping religious identity, ritual practice, and spiritual experience. It welcomes original research—including historical, theoretical, comparative, or ethnographic approaches—on topics such as sacred music in worship, soundscapes of mysticism and pilgrimage, devotional music across cultures, digital expressions of sacred sound, and music’s role in healing and reconciliation. Through critical reflection and innovative insight, Ars Sacra seeks to deepen understanding of how music and sound express, sustain, or transform religious life.
